Return to Learn and Return to Play Strategy
Returning to normal activities after a concussion, including learning, playing, and sport participation, is a step-by-step process that requires patience, attention, and caution. Students should return to school before they return to playing full-contact or competition-level sport or other physical activity. Slowly returning to school is best. It can be hard for students to focus and process information, which can affect school performance. The student, the student’s family, and the school staff can work collaboratively to adjust the school environment so the student can gradually return to full school activities and performance. The goal of working through the stages is to increase cognitive activity without exacerbating symptoms.
