French Language Education Review

In September 2014, the Department introduced a French Language Education Review (Review) to further support the full implementation of the French Immersion Program and the successful delivery of French courses (English Program) within Manitoba schools.

The purpose of the Review is:

  • To provide clear expectations to school divisions and schools with respect to their role and responsibilities in delivering programming as well as reporting accountability
  • To have a standardized process for schools and school divisions to report on French Immersion programming and the delivery of French courses (English Program), ensuring data validity and reliability through the use of questionnaires
  • To bring about collaboration and dialogue between schools, school divisions, and the Bureau de l’éducation française (BEF) regarding the full implementation of the French Immersion Program and the successful delivery of French courses (English Program) in Manitoba and to respond to their evolving needs
  • To enable schools and school divisions to gather data in order to enhance the French Immersion Program and the delivery of French courses (English Program), and to track progress over time
  • To assist schools and school divisions to reflect on successes and existing challenges, and to develop initiatives that build on their successes and address the needs of their French Immersion Program and the delivery of their French courses (English Program)
  • To collect provincial data that will be used to develop a comprehensive annual provincial report on the state of French Second Language Education in Manitoba as well as a report to the federal government under the Canada – Manitoba Agreement on Minority-Language Education and Second Official Language Instruction 2013-2014 to 2017-2018 (Canada-Manitoba Agreement).

No additional financial report on French Language Education will be required with this process. Expenses related to French Language Education continue to be reported under the appropriate FRAME Programs.
