MY CHILD IN SCHOOL – Informed Parent, Involved Parent

GRADE 10

In Grade 10, your child will display more autonomy in his or her learning. At this grade level, more choices are available, such as mathematics. Extracurricular activities, along with opportunities for community and school involvement, support the development of life skills and citizenship competencies, which play an increasing role in preparing students for their individual career paths.

In Senior Years, an interesting range of compulsory and optional courses will be offered to your child. As students successfully complete courses, they earn course credits towards high school graduation. (One credit is comprised of 110 hours of instruction.)

To obtain a Manitoba high school diploma, students must accumulate a minimum of 30 credits. Students need to earn a credit in every compulsory course to be able to graduate from high school. In total there are 21 compulsory courses from Grade 9 to Grade 12 in the French Immersion Program and 21 in the Technology Education Program (see tables in French Immersion Program and Technology Education Program links). Students earn additional credits by completing optional courses.

In order to obtain a provincial French immersion diploma, students must earn a minimum of 14 credits from courses taught in French. As of September 2024, students starting Grade 9 must earn a minimum of 15 credits taught in French.

There are 6 compulsory courses in Grade 10: English Language Arts, Français, Mathematics, Physical/Health Education, Science and Social Studies.
