Professional Certification
Specialist Certificates
The following types of Specialist Certificates may be issued:
Certificate in School Leadership
A person may qualify for a Certificate in School Leadership where the person
- holds a valid Manitoba Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate
- has three years or more of approved teaching experience while holding a valid Manitoba Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate or an approved teaching certificate issued by a jurisdiction outside Manitoba and satisfies one of the following requirements:
- completes an approved 30 credit hour post-baccalaureate program with a focus in educational administration offered by a faculty of education that includes:
- 15 core credit hours linked to all of the five Domains of Knowledge and Skill
- 6 credit hours of Field-led courses linked to one or more of the five Domains of Knowledge and Skill
- 9 credit hour of elective courses, or
- completes an approved Master of Education degree with a specialization in educational administration that is a minimum of 30 credit hours.
- completes an approved 30 credit hour post-baccalaureate program with a focus in educational administration offered by a faculty of education that includes:

Special Education Teaching Certificate
A person may qualify for a Special Education Teaching Certificate where the person
- holds a valid Manitoba Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate
- has two years or more of approved teaching experience while holding a valid Manitoba Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate, and satisfies the following requirement:
- completes an approved 30 credit hour post-baccalaureate diploma or Master's degree in Education, with a specialization in special education offered by a faculty of education that includes:
- Eighteen (18) credit hours of core university course work
- Twelve (12) credit hours of elective university course work in special education related topics
- completes an approved 30 credit hour post-baccalaureate diploma or Master's degree in Education, with a specialization in special education offered by a faculty of education that includes:

Special Education Coordinator Certificate
A person may qualify for a Special Education Coordinator Certificate where the person
- Holds a valid Manitoba Special Education Teaching Certificate, and
- Has five (5) or more years of approved experience in two or more of the following areas:
- Resource or special class teaching, or both,
- Approved clinical or special agency work at a professional level such as psychology, reading, social work, speech and hearing, and school counseling,
- Consultative or supervisory experience such as school administrator or department head.
- Acquire an offical statement from a current and/or former employer(s) that a minimum of five (5) years of experience in at least two (2) of the above areas of responsibilty have been completed.

School Counsellor Certificate
A person may qualify for a School Counsellor Certificate where the person
- Holds a valid Manitoba Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate
- Has two (2) years of successful teaching experience while holding a valid Manitoba Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate and satisfies the following requirement:
- completes an approved 30 credit hour post-baccalaureate diploma or Master's degree in Education, with a specialization in school counselling education offered by a faculty of education that includes:
- Eighteen (18) credit hours of core university coursework
- Twelve (12) credit hours of elective university course work in School Counsellor related topics
- completes an approved 30 credit hour post-baccalaureate diploma or Master's degree in Education, with a specialization in school counselling education offered by a faculty of education that includes:
