GRADE 9 - TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

OVERVIEW

In Grade 9, your child will need to obtain credits in 6 compulsory subjects: English Language Arts, Français, Mathematics, Physical Education/Health Education, Science and Social Studies. These credits are required to obtain the Manitoba high school diploma.

In addition to these 6 compulsory courses, your child will take optional courses to earn the necessary credits towards graduation requirements (a minimum of 30 credits in Senior Years). Among these, your child has the option to choose technology-oriented courses of full or ½ credits. Click the OPT tab for information on technology-oriented subjects.

Students use and study technology to create practical solutions to problems – individually or in groups – to develop technical skills, knowledge and attitudes. Technology Education enables students to explore their ideas and gain practical experiences in a safe and supportive environment. Technology Education allows learners to evaluate their strengths and interests in career choices. It also reflects rapid changes in the workplace and allows students to make informed decisions about their future.

The Senior Years Technology Education Diploma

Of the minimum 30 credits required for graduation, students must earn a minimum of 15 credits from courses taught in French in order to obtain a provincial French immersion diploma. Furthermore, students must complete 21 compulsory courses. See the list of courses below.

Through the study of human beings in their physical, social, and cultural environments, social studies examines the past and the present, and looks toward the future. Social studies helps students acquire the skills, knowledge, and values necessary to become active democratic citizens and contributing members of their communities, locally, nationally, and globally. Grade 9 social studies focuses on life in contemporary Canadian society.

To obtain a high school diploma, students must earn a credit in the Grade 9 course Social Studies: Canada in the Contemporary World.
