For further information, speak to your child’s teacher or refer to Physical Education/Health Education Grades 9 to 12 Curriculum Documents
How your child is assessed may vary from school to school but it will be based on the content listed under What My Child is Learning. Assessment will take place during the entire course. Observation, checklists, demonstration of skills, assignments and tests are some of the ways that the teacher may assess your child.
In Grades 9 and 10, your child will receive a percentage grade. In Grades 11 and 12 your child will receive a Complete or Incomplete mark rather than a percentage grade. Please note that results for Grades 11 and 12 Physical Education/Health Education courses will not be used in calculating your child’s grade point average.
Some schools may offer an OUT-of-class option as part of the physical education/health education course. For further information, speak to your child’s teacher.
In Grade 9, the health topics that contain potentially sensitive content are personal safety, substance use and abuse prevention and human sexuality. Parents may choose to have this content delivered by the school or in another way (e.g. home, professional counseling)
