Full-Time Students: How Do I Get My Funding?
Step 1 - Submit an online application
Create a Manitoba Student Aid (MSA) account and log in to your online portal to submit an application.
With this application, MSA will automatically check if you qualify for grants, bursaries, and loans.
Typically, it takes 1 – 2 weeks to assess an application, but may take longer if more information is required.
Apply early to avoid delays.
For password resets, click on LOGIN TO YOUR ACCOUNT and select the Forgot Your Password link.
Step 2 - Application is assessed
Once your application is assessed, you will receive an email to check your MSA online portal. Log in and check the following tabs for information:
My Award Information: Shows the breakdown of your funding. Funding is released at the beginning and midpoint of the program.
My Required Information: Shows the documentation and information you need to submit to receive your funding.
My Assessment Details: Shows how your funding was calculated.
Step 3 - Submit all required documentation/information
Typically, it takes 4 – 6 weeks to process documentation or information, but may take longer during peak times.
Check the MSA website for current processing times.
All required documentation listed under My Required Information must state processed as the status before a confirmation of enrollment is requested from your school.
Submit all required documentation or information early with your name and file number on each document to avoid delays.
Note: All documentation must be submitted no later than 45 days before your study period ends.
Step 4 - Confirmation of enrollment
Once all of your required documentation or information is processed, MSA will confirm enrollment with your school electronically.
This process happens automatically, you do not need to do anything.
Typically, this process takes 1 – 2 weeks, but may take longer if there is a discrepancy between information from your school versus information on your application.
If your course load has changed, you can update this on your MSA online portal.
Step 5 - Funding is released
Once your enrollment is confirmed, your MSA funding will be sent directly to your school to pay your outstanding tuition.
Any leftover amount will be sent to the bank account on your file and may take 1 – 2 weeks to become available in your bank account.
Exception: if your school is located outside of Canada, all your funding will be deposited to the bank account on your file.
Check your MSA online portal under My Award Information tab for detailed disbursement amounts and dates.
Note: Funds cannot be released before your program starts and they cannot be released after your study period end date.
