  • Use visual, oral, and multimodal media communication appropriate for a range of purposes.
  • Provide regular opportunities for learners to engage in dialogue about their learning, including peer as well as student/teacher conferencing and feedback.
  • Prioritize the use of respectful and inclusive language, considering cultural nuances in non-verbal communication.
  • Develop and share thinking routines (such as questioning for understanding) that show how meaning is derived from the recipient’s experience and how it can be misunderstood.
  • Model and regularly acknowledge context cues, conventions, and body language as a means for communication, and teach learners to look for nuances to enhance understanding.
  • Model and provide opportunities for learners to communicate their learning through a variety of modes, formats, tools, and technologies while considering audience and purpose.
  • Provide opportunities for learners to share their learning digitally. Discuss the importance of creating a positive digital footprint, including in social media, and support the development of learners’ understanding of their online image and persona.
